Our Mission

Gunnison Trails’ mission is to work with public land managers and other stakeholders to enhance human-powered singletrack trail opportunities on the public lands adjacent to the community of Gunnison, Colorado.

Gunnison Trails maintains and upgrades existing trails; educates trails users; and proposes; gains approval for; and constructs new trails and new trail systems.

We are conservation minded mountain bikers, runners and walkers and conscientious stewards of our public lands.

We passionately seek the health benefits and increased personal growth and motivation provided by high-quality, sustainable trails for exercising in the outdoors.

In more detail, this is what Gunnison Trails is focused on:

• Working with land managers to protect natural resources on public lands, including wildlife, and decreasing route density are foundation pursuits of Gunnison Trails.

• Education is central to just about everything Gunnison Trails does. Sharing trails and using them in a responsible and sustainable manner is our primary and continual message.

• Mobilizing volunteers who maintain existing trails and build new trails, in partnership with regulatory agencies and municipalities.

• Helping our public land managers close and reclaim unsustainable and undesirable routes.

• Working to continually improve and enhance our existing trails and trail systems. We also actively plan and work to gain approval for new trails and new trail systems.

• Continually working to improve the infrastructure of Gunnison area trails. Examples include signage, access and information. Everything important to the trails, other than the trails.

• Closely following and being involved in federal and local agency planning processes and actions that may affect our trails or our access to them.
