GUNNISON TRAILS – A COLORADO-NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION PROPOSES 3 MAJOR TRAIL PROJECTS

Gunnison Trails, in addition to maintaining existing trails and educating trail users, is committed to expanding trail opportunities on the public lands directly accessible from the city of Gunnison. Resource protection is a primary component of this expansion and challenges other than building new trails include:
* Protecting wildlife by continually educating trail users about Seasonal Closures of certain trails and the importance of honoring these closures.
* Ensuring that overall Route Density decreases, even as we are adding mileage of new, high-quality trails. This means that our efforts and resources also need to be allocated to assisting the BLM and Forest Service in decommissioning routes they have determined to be unsustainable and inappropriate for the travel system.
* Considering all other natural resource concerns including but not limited to: archeology, soil and water quality, grazing and other public lands users.
